To say that someone has an attitude means that they are arrogant or aggressive in their disposition and behavior. It seems that a lot of people today have an attitude. How can we tell? How people look, the way they dress and carry themselves says a lot. People with an attitude swagger, scowl, and talk tough and rough, swearing and such. And they dress to shock, to illicit a reaction, which makes them feel noticed and special—even feared. The way people dress and carry themselves conveys their attitude. Sometimes we call it posturing, where they do something to create an expectation, or to undermine an expectation. One’s attitude provides a window that reveals their assumptions about themselves and the world. …

What is your attitude about what you don’t know and cannot know because it is beyond your ability to understand? Clearly, I’m talking about your attitude about God. And I am saying that we cannot know anything about God unless God reveals Himself to us. We cannot make God reveal Himself to us, or to anyone else. But we can invite God’s revelation by striking the right attitude toward Him. We can be open to the possibility of knowing God. The dictionary defines attitude as a manner of thinking, feeling, or behaving that reflects our state of mind or disposition.

The parable of the Persistent Widow tells of a widow who is a pain below the belt to a judge.

We hear chants today: No Justice, No Peace! God chants back: Know Justice, Know Peace! Or He could chant: No Righteousness, No Peace! In other words, if you want justice in the world, then you need to be righteous, to live justly yourself. And when everyone does this, peace is the result. …
